About Pioneers

Pioneers Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Welcome to Pioneers — a peaceful retreat just 2.5 km from the breathtaking Victoria Falls. Tucked away in a quiet residential suburb, our charming lodge perfectly blends the nostalgic spirit of early explorers with the modern comforts today’s travellers appreciate.

Surrounded by lush gardens and manicured lawns, Pioneers features 50 beautifully designed rooms, each thoughtfully created with space, comfort, and style in mind. All rooms offer tranquil garden views, air-conditioning, ceiling fans, tea and coffee stations, and modern en-suite bathrooms with double vanities. We also offer four family rooms, making the lodge an ideal choice for couples, families, or friends travelling together.

At the heart of the lodge lies our warm and inviting main area — complete with a cosy lounge, a timeless dining room, and a spacious terrace for enjoying relaxed meals outdoors. Our classic saloon-style bar serves a variety of refreshing drinks, including locally brewed, craft beer made with water from the mighty Zambezi. Guests can unwind in one of our two swimming pools, treat themselves at the day spa, catch up on news in the TV room. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. All our rooms and the main lodge area are strictly non-smoking zones; however, designated smoking areas are available throughout the property for guest convenience.

We are deeply committed to sustainable tourism. Much of the lodge is powered by solar energy, and we proudly support local conservation efforts — including anti-poaching initiatives, wildlife research projects, and anti-litter campaigns in the Victoria Falls area.

Above all, we take great pride in our hospitality. From our hands-on owners and friendly managers to every member of our team, we’re here to make you feel welcome and at home from the moment you arrive. Whether it’s your first visit to Victoria Falls or a return to a place you love, Pioneers offers a peaceful and comfortable base for your adventures.

"An incredible place to stay
Our first impression was that the Lodge looked amazing straight away. We were greeted at the gate having been collected from the airport, approx 25 minutes drive. We met at reception by the receptionist and given a warm welcome. After signing in we were escorted to the lounge and given a glass of lovely iced tea. We were then taken to our room which was perfect. Beautiful bed with mosquito nets provided. Tea /coffee making facilities and a large bathroom. The gardens and pools were kept impeccable and no stone was left unturned at the lodge. After relaxing and having enjoyed afternoon tea in the evening we dined at the restaurant. The food was excellent and couldn't be faulted along with the friendly and very helpful staff.
The lodge is very well positioned a reasonable walk or taxi ride from Victoria Falls. I think we certainly got what we paid for with our choice of accommodation for staying in Victoria. It was so quiet all the time apart from the birds singing beautifully. I would totally recommend this place for a stay while visiting Victoria. I think it deserves 5* stars."

From outside you have no idea what to expect.
From inside – it is a bit like walking into a story book…..The Secret Garden meets Alice in Wonderland (without white rabbits and flamingoes).
Greenery, flowers, our resident ducks, wonderful birdlife.
And then there is the lodge.
Light, space, and a feeling of a bygone era but with all the modern day comforts.

Effective beginning of January all transfers, activities and parks fees now incur a 15.5% VAT charge added on to them (they were previously exempt) as per the Ministry of Finance announcement.
This will affect the cost of all activities, transfer and park entry fees so please be aware of that. This is beyond the control of the operators and service providers.
The good news is all of our accommodation rates remain the same as accommodation rates have included VAT.

"3 Super Days at Pioneers
My husband and I rounded off a tour of South Africa with a 3 day visit to Victoria Falls. We are so glad that we stayed at Pioneers. Every aspect of our stay was top quality, but we would particularly like to mention the staff who were friendly, professional, caring and clearly hard working. Help with arranging a variety of activities was greatly appreciated. Without the assistance of the staff, we would not have had such a wide ranging and rewarding time. The grounds were delightful, well kept with some fragrant shrubs and two pristine pools, give or take the odd leaf or two. Our room was comfortable and perfect for our requirements and the mosquito nets were set up ready for us each evening. Great Margueritas. Two cool resident ducks. All good - and we will repeat - it's the staff who made our stay memorable. Thank you."

This beautiful male lion was on the side of the road about 40 km from Vic Falls today. Guests coming back from a Chobe Day Trip or arriving from the Botswana border might have been lucky enough to see him as they got their transfer to Vic Falls.

Just another great reason that Victoria Falls should be on your bucket list.

Warthogs, baboons and mongooses are regular sights thoughout the year - but as the bush dries up even more, it is not unusual to get elephants and buffalo making an appearance....as well as the occasional hippo
It is one of the things that makes this part of the world that much more special.
We would like to remind you to practice due caution when you see these animals ( big or small).
- they are 100% wild.
- keep your distance
- do not try and stroke, pat or feed any of them
- use taxis in the early moring and as it gets darker......it is not always easy to see the bigger game.
- be aware of your surroundings
- take a photo, but no need to do it from up close.
- by putting yourself in a dangerous situation it often ends up putting the animal in a dangerous situation.

We are very lucky to have organisations like Victoria Falls Anti Poaching Unit, Connected Conservation, Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust and Zimbabwe National Parks who are often on site to monitor the wildlife when they are in high traffic areas.
And our whatsapp group traffic reports probably look a little different to yours ........

Help us keep our wildlife and yourselves safe - and help us keep Vic Falls the magical place it is.

"Home far away from Home
The Pioneers Lodge has some of the best customer service I’ve ever experienced in Africa. From the moment I arrived, I felt so well taken care of.
The ambience is warm, homey, and relaxing, with two pools and a restaurant that serves really good food. The staff were amazing—Charity, in particular, was so accommodating and always seemed to anticipate what the guests might need. Housekeeping was consistent and thoughtful, cleaning the room daily and even taking the time to draw down the curtain beds every night, which was such a pleasant surprise.
Even the security at the front desk was very welcoming, and the driver who handled my airport transfers was lively, friendly, and incredibly helpful.
From the outside, the lodge looks small, but once inside, it’s surprisingly spacious. My room was huge, with a big comfortable bed, crisp linens, and a restroom that exceeded my expectations, complete with hot and cold showers.
Overall, it felt like a hidden gem—cozy yet professional, simple yet very well done. I honestly wish I could go back already."

We are still a week away from it officially being We are still a week away from it officially being Spring here in the southern hemisphere ....but already our day time temperatures are soaring in Vic Falls. This last week we have hit around 35 degrees celcius ( 95 farenheit) with next week set to get warmer.

So a bit of advice on how to beat the heat:
✅Stay hydrated - we recommend you get yourself an @officialecodrop bottle and use the handy refill stations situated at various points around Vic Falls and the one at the lodge ( and you get to take a great bottle home with you......and you do away with single use plastic bottles...it just makes sense). Get some rehydrates if you feel you need to and add them to your water.
✅Use sunscreen and reapply during the day - even in the shade. Going home with a glowing tan is very different from going home with a scoarching sunburn.
✅Have a swim ( perhaps more than one) in one of our two very inviting pools at the lodge.
✅Enjoy an ice cold drink or signature cocktail/mocktail at our bar.
✅Relax on our cool terrace or have a sneaky nap in your air-conditioned room.
✅Wear light, cool clothing.

Let us know your best ways to keep cool on a hot day - we would love to know.......
