The festive season is almost upon us, and we firmly agree with the idea of giving the gift of experiences …..they create moments and memories that will be spoken about for years to come.

There are thought to be 111 mammal species ( of the 128 species you get in the whole of Zimbabwe), around 470 bird species, and countless reptiles. It is also home to the BIG 5.
So why not come and see our wonder of the world, take part in some of the activities that make it the adventure capital of the world, and then head off on a safari to Hwange National Park.

We would like to send our hearty Congratulations 👏👏👏to Doug for winning an award at the Africa Travel Under 40 Awards held in Nigeria for all the amazing work he has been doing for the Environment with Pristine and prior to that.

Yesterday marked exactly 1 year since he was appointed as the PVFS Campaign Manager and to date he has achieved the following;

In one year,

- Over 50 tonnes of litter mopped up from our streets.

- 300 membership base which include major tourism players and companies. Over 80 streets are adopted for cleaning by these members.

- Established the Pristine Schools Awards with over 40 schools participating.

- Established the Pristine Jnr Eco Warriors with 40 students and 80 parents participating in the environmental programs.

- Established the Victoria Falls Waste Management Taskforce comprised of ZRP, Pristine, EMA and City Council. It is all about environmental law enforcement which has achieved over 300 tickets in 1 year.

- Recruited/enrolled over 200 volunteer cleaners.

- Commenced recycling activities at the Dumpsite through recyclable waste bailing and shipment to Hre recycling centers.

-Management of fire guards at the Dumpsite

Today we meet the man behind the delicious meals at Pioneers Lodge.

Introducing Moeketsi Ndlovu - executive chef. Moeketsi 100% homegrown talent having done all of his primary and secondary schooling here. He was passionate about cooking from the age of 5 - a passion that his late grandmother supported and saw him qualify as a chef in 2008 at the Bulawayo School of Hospitality and Tourism. Moeketsi leads his small kitchen team with passion and encouragement. He loves using fresh and local produce, and he changes the menu in line with what is in season. He loves interacting with the clients and getting their feedback.
Clearly he is doing something right:
- Food was exceptional
- Everything about Pioneers is first rate, from the room, to the restaurant,
- .... as well as lovely dinner
( just a few of the comments off reviews).

Moeketsi's other passion is soccer, and when he is not cooking up a storm in the kitchen, you will find him out on the field.

We have some new dishes joining our favourites on the lunch menu. Ribs, a new wrap, a pasta dish....... and this fresh, delicious and tasty salmon and avo salad with a tangy dill dressing.
Pure goodness in a bowl and we feel healthier just thinking about it.

Those of you who have visited Vic Falls, and spent some time Elephants Walk, will probably have come across Dexter and his global villages.
This very talented and amusing artist really is part and parcel of this artisans village. There is a video of him telling his story in a previous post - see if you can find it.

Heading in to see @simunye.live yesterday evening, we were delighted to see he has now added lights for night time viewing. Add the resident marimba band playing ....and it is the perfect entry into a wonderful evening of the arts.

We seem to have completely missed out on Spring an

We seem to have completely missed out on Spring and moved straight into summer...and the temperatures are already soaring.
Luckily we have 2 swimming pools on the property for you to cool off in....the perfect place for all ages to hang our between adventures in and around Vic Falls!

And here is some advice on how to keep yourself safe in the soaring temperatures.

1. Keep hydrated. Make sure you drink a lot of water ( the Ecodrop bottles and refill stations around town make this an easy thing to do - just keep drinking and refilling as you go about your day). An ice-cold drink at the Pioneers bar is also a good option.
2. Suncreen. Make sure you apply sunscreen before leaving your room in the morning, and reapply during the day.
3. Appropriate clothing: Loose fitting, lightweight, breathable clothing is your best bet for comfort in hot days.
4. Seek shade: Take time out under the trees in our gorgeous gardens, or on the terrace of the main building.
5. Swim : Enjoy a refreshing swim in the pools on the property. Always make sure you keep an eye on your kids when they are splashing around. Safety first!

And remember we have air-conditioners and ceiling fans in all our rooms.

Two years ago today we opened our doors and welcom

Two years ago today we opened our doors and welcomed our very first 2 guests through our doors. We had only one room in house, but really was a day filled with excitement and happiness - seeing as we had been on pause for the better part of 18 months. A day to celebrate.
Today, on our 2 year anniversary of that day, every room at the lodge is occupied. And our staff are just as welcoming and wonderful as they were on that very first day.
And we have so much to look forward to .

The Pristine Victoria Falls Society continue to do

The Pristine Victoria Falls Society continue to do incredible work in Victoria Falls. The fight against littering, single use plastic, and other kinds of waste is not an easy task - but Douglas Musiringofa and his team ( Patrick Madzorera , Sbhekisiwe Ndlovu and Lloyd Chikosi) continue to make huge inroads into this battle on a daily basis. We are always in awe by just how much they achieve each and every day ( and we are not very sure when the sleep).
They are out there educating kids, engaging the community, getting people involved, identifying problem areas, and so much more.
We do our little bit by heading out and cleaning up certain sections every Friday. We also have an Ecodrop water dispenser at the lodge, and you are encouraged to get the bottle so you can use these all over Vic Falls ( no need to buy any other bottles of water along the way - a great way to say NO to single use plastic). But this is small scale compared to what this dynamic team does each and every day.
They were struggling to get around so a few months ago we jumped in to assist make their job a little easier - and in the short space of time they have had this vehicle on the road, it has done some serious mileage and removed a lot of waste from the streets of Vic Falls.

So a quick shout out to Doug and his team for all they have achieve ( over 1200 bags of rubbish cleared in August and there is no stopping them....).
And a big thank you to the stakeholders and community members who have committed themselves to all that Pristine stands for.

Simon is our transfer driver and guide, and he is the perfect person to meet you off a long ( or short) flight, or take you on a guided tour of the Falls. He is always smiling, has many stories to tell, and you know you are in safe hands with him at the helm.

Happy World Lion Day – a day celebrated to raise awareness for these big cats.
They are currently listed as vulnerable by the IUCN, but the good news is that it seems that their numbers are on the increase in our part of the world.
There have been wonderful lion sightings on game drives in both Zambezi National Park and on Chobe Day Trips recently. Have you been lucky enough to see them in the wild? If not, it is definitely the right time to book a game drive!
